Others, including the Reverend Nishimura, a Buddhist monk, saw in the pattern of the EightStar Diamond a symbol of Buddhism known as Rinbo in Japanese: "Not only is the EightStar Diamond the very embodiment of the rinbo, it also represents the sun in space. It possesses the brilliancy of the sun."
According to Buddhist teaching, a circle represents the universe, and light radiating in eight directions represents the light of the sun. What the Reverend Nishimura was saying was that the EightStar Diamond contained within it the very universe itself.
The relationship between the Chinese divination octagram of the I Ching, the Japanese Rinbo and a diamond remains mysterious. Yet there is, indeed, a link between universe, sun, light, and the EightStar Diamond.
