EightStar in America
In 1990, gem dealer Richard von Sternberg came to own the only company in the world, besides Mr. Tamura's company in Japan, dedicated entirely to the production of EightStar Diamonds.
The company, located in Northern California, took its name from the eight-rayed pattern in the diamond. The star pattern, which serves as visible proof of peerless diamond performance, began the revolution in image-based selling of the diamond.
EightStar Diamonds were available several years before the "hearts and arrows" and "super Ideal" cut diamonds hit America in 1997. But because EightStar spent the first half of the 1990s cutting mainly for the Japanese market, most of its production went abroad, and the company became better known in Asia than America.
